Pre-School

Children are the heart of our Pre-School and the motivation for everything we do!

We have a free-flow indoors and outdoors policy and children learn to take risks in a safe environment. Children learn to recognise their physical potential and develop a love for the outdoors. We also run Forest School and Multi Sport sessions once a week with a fully qualified Green Light Trust teacher and a qualified Sports Coach.

We recognise that all children develop at a different rate and we aim to meet their individual needs and adapt the curriculum to suit them. We use the Birth to Five matters to support us to implement the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) in a pedagogically sound, principled and evidence-based way.

We take pride in our special bond we make with your child and in turn helps your child grow into confident capable, open minded learner who will be ready for their transition to school.

We nurture children’s love of books and stories to develop a wider vocabulary. We use puppets, props and singing sticks at story time to be inclusive and help keep our youngest children engaged. All staff are trained in Makaton and we regularly teach the children how to say and sign words.

We support children’s understanding of early mathematical concepts through repetition and using a child’s interests to extend their learning.

At Woodland Corner we know that children are born with a natural curiosity and need to explore the world around them. They need to use all their senses to do this. We have lots of craft and natural resources out for them to access independently. We have playdough to explore, painting on easels and on flat surfaces. Water, sand and bark are always available to explore and learn mathematical concepts and work through schemas.

We have lots of resources out that act as our continuous provision but we also rotate toys and equipment to keep the children interested and engaged. Children learn through play! “Play is the highest expression of human development in childhood for it alone is the free expression of what is in a child’s soul” Friedrich Froebel
