Forest School – July ’24
12 July 2024
This week at Forest School we started with our usual agreements with our tapping sticks and then took a quiet gentle stroll around the woodland, finding mushrooms, helicopter seeds, moss, dead wood and all sorts of other forest treasures. We were very good at not touching the stinging nettles and holly.
The children love lifting the logs and large branches we find and with Cheryl they listened to the trees to see if they could hear the water movement.
In our magic box a poorly chicken had a bandage on, an ice pack, a blanket and a medicine bottle. We could find some other animals on site in baskets that needed to be taken care of. We had a special area with things we could use to look after them.
Alongside this activity today we could paint leaves, some of the children painted their hands and we had some lovely large leaves with their handprints on! Some painted the leaves and printed onto card and some just enjoyed the paint!
We also had the book tent, minibeast laboratory with bug hunting tools, butterfly decorating, fairy doors, hidden jewels and treaures and of course the hammock! We could make bird feeders today if your children bought back a bracelet with threaded Cheerios it isn’t a clever travel snack! It’s to put on your trees, hedges or just balanced somewhere outside, we will look next week at the ones on our Forest School site and see if our birds have enjoyed their treat! We also cleaned and changed the fruit on our butterfly feeders, the children chopped the banana put them on the jam jar lids and placed them onto our feeding tables in the trees.
With the balancing logs and our “river” back again, this week they were challenged to make a bridge to cross the river. Wow! What amazing ideas, problem solving, working together and turn taking skills.
I am always inspired by how the children make each offering at Forest School their own!
I look forward to seeing you all next week, the last sessions before the holidays begin.
Have a lovely weekend,
Laura Ladybird ?
