Forest School – November ’24
7 November 2024
Today we discovered different types of animals in our magic box. We shared the story of “Handa’s Noisy Night” a wonderful book set in Africa about Handa and Akeyo having a sleepover in Akeyos hut. They hear all sorts of noises that turn out to be different animals. We spoke about all the animals being nocturnal and the different animals like pangolin, lemurs and porcupines that we don’t see in the wild here. We then spoke about what noisy nights we might have had this week and lots of the children shared that they went to see fireworks and/or heard them!
We had a wonderful time watching, playing and catching the beautiful golden leaves falling off the trees on our glade area.
The activities on offer today included bat spray art pictures, chalk drawing on a dark sheet to represent firework colours in a night sky, paint and foamy soap messy tray, night sky playdough and a nocturnal animals night time play tray. The book tent, hammock, water/mud play and streamers were on offer as well as shadow play with a white sheet and camping lamp.
We saw some wonderful tree climbing, exploring, creativity and chilling out. We created a beautiful leaf wreath together which became a lions mane, necklaces and a stunning crown! Near the end of the second session one of the children found an impressive stick which became a measuring stick to see how tall the children are compared to each other.
Another beautiful day in the woodland together!
